Indian Americans are one of the fastest-growing and most highly educated groups in the United States, numbering about 4.9 million people as of 2023. Most are first-generation immigrants, with strong concentrations in states like California, Texas, New Jersey, New York, and Illinois. They have among the highest educational attainment levels in the nation—over three-quarters hold at least a bachelor’s degree—and the highest median household income of any major Asian-origin group. The community also shows strong rates of homeownership and professional engagement across sectors, reflecting both economic success and a deepening cultural and civic presence in American life.
